Analyze and Symbolize (#G3): $25.00

First level sentences for grammar study--but still challenging

This set of 23 masters provides a simple yet essential step in grammar mastery: practice. Phrases begin with articles, adjectives, and nouns, then become sentences with verbs and prepositions. The student is exposed to a variety of sentence structures, to words used as several parts of speech, and to challenges where a word typically used as one part of speech functions differently.

Each page in this set includes a group of phrases or sentences (usually 7 to 8) with space above to allow for symbolizing using a grammar template. Also included in the series are several delightful review sheets, and a worksheet for the student to provide his or her own words for the parts of speech as extra practice.

Analyze and Symbolize was revised in 2013. While changes aren't significant from the previous version, we feel it's an even stronger product now!

Spanish Analyze and Symbolize (#G3SP): $30.00

Now your Spanish students can analyze passages similar to those in our Analyze and Symbolize English version

This set of 23 masters provides a simple format for students in Spanish classes to apply the classical Montessori grammar symbols to staged passages. Just as with Analyze and Symbolize in English, the Spanish phrases begin with articles, adjectives, and nouns, then become sentences with verbs and prepositions.

Each page in this set includes a group of Spanish phrases or sentences (usually 7 to 8) with space above to allow for symbolizing using a grammar template. Also included in the series are several delightful review sheets, and a worksheet for the student to provide his or her own words for the parts of speech as extra practice.

While many of the sentences are the same as in the English version, we have changed a number of sentences due to the differences between English and Spanish in sentence structure, use of words, etc.

Literature for Grammar

Excerpts from great literature for grammar exercises

This three-part package offers short excerpts from classic and contemporary children's literature for use in the classroom in grammar analysis. Using a template of the grammar symbols, the students trace the symbols above the words as they study sections of such works as Our Home is the Sea, The Black Stallion, Charlotte's Web, Rascal and more. Each selection is provided in triple-spaced form on its own page. The teacher uses the master set to provide work papers for each child on his or her own level.

Excerpts are carefully selected to represent the style and content of each book while providing exercises that can be successfully analyzed using the nine grammatical symbols. Answer keys (reduced size) are provided. litgramm

Magnetic Grammar Symbols (#G16): $19.00

A multi-use tool for grammar lessons or student practice

Teachers can write sentences or phrases to illustrate grammar functions and then easily symbolize them using this set of 28 magnetic color symbols of the nine first level parts of speech. The 1-inch square symbols have a strong magnetic backing that allows you to hold up a magnet board as you teach your lesson yet still move them easily. Students can also use the symbols for individual practice using a classroom magnet board. There are many possible uses for this set of symbols.symbols

We recommend using a dry-erase magnet board that is 11 x 17 inches, which allows lengthy sentences in landscape orientation, or shorter phrases in portrait orientation.

The 28 symbols include: 4 articles, 5 adjectives, 4 nouns, 4 verbs, 3 adverbs, 3 prepositions, 2 conjunctions, 2 pronouns, and 1 interjection. The symbols come in a clear box with lid, but you can also store the symbols right at the bottom margin of a magnet board--no small parts to lose that way!
